As part of the Second Global BDS Day of Action for Palestine (http://www.bdsmovement.net/?q=node/635) supporters of the Stolen Beauty AHAVA Boycott Campaign (www.stolenbeauty.org) are organizing protests in New York City, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Montreal, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Ahava promises “Beauty Secrets from the Dead Sea.” And wait until you hear those secrets!
Because Ahava is hiding the ugly truth—its products actually come from stolen Palestinian natural resources in the Occupied Territory of the Palestinian West Bank, and are produced in the illegal settlement of Mitzpe Shalem. Don’t let the “Made in Israel” sticker fool you—when you buy Ahava products you help finance the destruction of hope for a peaceful and just future for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Here in New York City, you can join CODEPINK NYC, Adalah-NY, and the Stolen Beauty coalition for protest actions outside Ricky’s NYC. Ricky’s, a family-owned chain of cosmetics & sundries stores with locations throughout Manhattan, carries Ahava cosmetics, a product that is the subject of an international boycott campaign because its practices are against international law.
We have been trying since August 2009 to convince Ricky’s NYC CEO Dominick Costello to remove AHAVA from the chain’s inventory. Our supporters sent him over 2,000 e-mails on Valentine’s Day with the message: “Dominick, Have a heart—stop carrying AHAVA.” Now we need to bring our message to the stores and to the shoppers.
